Salvi’s Mozzarella Bar Manchester Review

I’ve never really understood peoples love of mozzarella, on a pizza it is great but on its own, its just tastes so bland as far as I am concerned, so the thought of a mozzarella bar didn’t really appeal to me. However, I am always open to trying out new restaurants and new dishes so I decided to give Salvi’s Mozzarella Bar Manchester a go.

It is quite small inside the mozzarella bar but very cosy and has a very authentic Italian delicatessen feel, quite what you would expect from a business owned and operated by a family hailing from Naples.

The restaurant was quite busy when we visited on a Saturday for lunch but we managed to get a small table at the back of the restaurant. The waitress was very friendly and explained the menu to us and there was a very good selection including salads, paninis, pizzas, pasta and steak and seafood. But Salvi’s is known as the Mozzarella bar,  so that’s what we chose, 3 Mozzarella D.O.P and a side of Mix bread con olive oil and Balsamic.

The mozzarella plate consisted of a three large cheeses, one each of Bufala, Smoked Provola and Burrata, all three had a very similar texture but tasted unique in their own way and there was plenty for two people to share. Although the food was very well prepared and the mixed breads were delicious, I can’t say that my opinion of mozzarella changed after eating at Salvi’s but that is definitely not a slight on the food or the restaurant. The cheese was definitely fresh and ripe, but I just found each cheese to not taste of very much at all. I am sure that is down to my palate than anything else, as my girlfriend totally disagreed, she thought each cheese tasted delicious and unique in their own way.

I would most certainly return to Salvi’s Mozzarella Bar again but I would try something other than the mozzarella. As a side note, we did visit one of Salvi’s other Manchester based restaurants, Salvi’s Cucina on John Dalton Street and had a very delicious meal. Please see the separate review for this restaurant.

Lunch with a glass or wine and an Aperol spritz cost just over £20, so prices were not bad at all.

If you haven’t got time to sit in, you can always get a sandwich from the deli takeaway which also offers fresh breads, meats and cheeses as well as Italian sauces, pastas and cakes. Well worth a visit if you’re in a rush.
