Turkish Kitchen Manchester Review

I have passed the Turkish Kitchen every day for the past couple of months now and it has always been very busy. We decided to give it a try on Saturday and had a rather nice if not slow lunch.

The restaurant is quite small with seating for maybe 40 people. It is very clean inside and there is plenty of natural light from the large windows. As the name suggests, the food is Turkish although they do serve burgers and other fast foods.

The service was really quite slow and our waiter, although very friendly, seemed to be a bit stressed out whilst trying to serve multiple tables simultaneously.

My girlfriend ordered a couple of small plates, Cacik, a dish of seasoned, strained yoghurt, similar to the Greek dish,Tzatziki and Falafel. She also asked for a side of pitta bread but was given some fresh Turkish bread instead. I ordered a chicken shish kebab meal which came with chips, salad and a drink. A bargain at £7.

We waited perhaps 20 minutes for the Cacik and the Felafel, the kebab arriving about 15 minutes later, not ideal when one person is eating and the other is waiting.

The bread was fresh and very tasty and although not what we had asked for still made for a nice accompaniment to the Cacik, which was very creamy and fresh and perfect for dipping. It also made for a good sauce for the kebab and helped give the falafel a bit of moisture as they were really quite dry, tasty but dry and also a little bit too crispy, perhaps slightly overcooked?

Falafel

The chicken sheesh meal was very nice. A reasonably sized portion of well cooked, well seasoned chicken and a rather small portion of fries that were slightly seasoned with what appeared to be paprika. The plate also came with a small portion of pitta bread and salad. I found it to be very good value for the price.

All in all, I really enjoyed the Turkish Kitchen. Nice, bright, clean premises, friendly staff and nice food at a very reasonable price. The total bill was only £16 which is a cheap lunch in anybody’s book. The only downside was the terribly slow service but hopefully that will improve over time.
