Yard & Coop Review

My first time visiting Yard & Coop in Manchester’s Norther Quarter and it won’t be my last.

With the recent pandemic, ordering food proved to be a bit of a challenge as everything has to be ordered via the website whilst sitting at your table. We were told to visit the Yard & Coop website, choose which restaurant we were in, as there are three locations to choose from, choose our table number and choose what we wanted. When you have three people wanting to split the bill and pay on their own cards, it makes things a little difficult as we all had to place orders independently and create our own online accounts which is a bit of a faff and a bit time consuming. Two of three of us did this no problem, the third had difficulty and was told they could go and order at the bar, which made me question why we couldn’t have all done that in the first place. In any case we all managed to order our own food and to our surprise it all arrived at the same time within about 20 minutes.

There was a good variety of dishes on the menu, all of them having chicken as the main ingredient, hence the name; there are wings, drum sticks, burgers and big plates and an interesting choice of sauces. The Dr Pepper BBQ sauce standing out for all of us.

Rather unadventurous, we all ordered the same dish, ‘The Dirty Bird’ big plate, I think because it sounded so good, none of us wanted food envy had we ordered something different. The Dirty Bird is a big bowl of fries, loaded with cheese sauce, buttermilk fried chicken and crispy bacon, smothered with spicy bees knees, Dr Pepper BBQ and blue cheese sauces. Delightful!

We also ordered a side dish of mac n cheese which arrived at the table bubbling over with a mixture of three cheeses. It was described on the menu as having a blue cheese sauce, but I couldn’t really taste any blue cheese. However, it was still delicious.

Prices were reasonable with the main dish costing £13 and the mac n cheese side costing £4.50.

Next visit, I plan on trying ‘The Massive Cock’, a 12 inch tall burger consisting of a double stacked chicken burger, hash browns, loaded tatties, lashings of cheese sauce, creamy ranch and buffalo sauce, piled high with American cheese, bacon, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes, red onion, pickles, and rainbow root slaw. Served in a brioche bun, topped with a mini bun stuffed with buttermilk chicken and adobo chilli mayo.
