Junipers Coffee Shop Chorlton Review

We had planned to go over to Chorlton to  pay a visit to the awesome Unicorn Grocery store so decided to combine the visit with a lunch outing; there are so many nice looking cafe’s and restaurants over in Chorlton that it would be a shame not to take advantage. Chinese, Indian, Middle Eastern, Greek, vegetarian; the list goes on of the cuisines you can choose from.

We had wanted to give Zaytoon a try as we had heard so many nice things about it but unfortunately it doesn’t open until 6PM on a Saturday, we will definitely be trying it at some point, so look out for a review soon. After a 30 minute walk around the town and 10 or 20 restaurant views later, we finally settled on Junipers, a Spanish influenced Coffee shop on Wilbraham Road.

The weather wasn’t ideal on Saturday but there were a few people sitting outside eating their lunch and the food looked delicious as we passed by, a quick look at the menu and our minds were made up. Being a coffee shop the food on offer was more sandwiches and salads than full on main courses but that suited us to be honest. Inside the cafe is quite small and compact and it was also very warm, on that basis we decided to sit outside, even though rain was looming.

The menu at Junipers has a good selection of drinks including a large choice of coffees, café bombón being one of them;  if you’ve never tried this Spanish delight, you really should, its amazing. Not being in the mood for coffee I had a fresh apple juice and the Mrs had a San Pellegrino soft drink, which was very reasonably priced at £1.20;  most cafe’s and bars charge £2.00 and upwards for a San Pellegrino.

For food, I had Manchego cheese and quince jam served with lightly toasted sourdough bread, rocket, walnuts and radish. The quince jam went perfectly with manchego cheese and the walnuts and radish added a really nice crunch. There was a little too much olive oil drizzled on the rocket for my taste, it wasn’t that bad but I would have preferred a little less.

My girlfriend chose the serrano ham and manchego cheese sandwich with home made Catalan fresh tomato sauce served on a toasted ciabatta with a side of coleslaw which again was very nice and well presented. She really enjoyed the sandwich and if she had any complaints at all, it was that the bread was a little too crispy around the edges, making it a little sharp on the palate.

The service was first rate and the staff were very pleasant. Although we didn’t dine inside because of the heat, the premises were very clean and the tables were cleared and cleaned quickly and efficiently. Junipers had a steady stream of patrons, I think for very good reason; if I lived in Chorlton or close by, I would visit Junipers coffee shop much more frequently. Delightful
